Keeping our campus community safe and supported is a shared responsibility. Use this section to find quick guidance on how to securely report misconduct, what steps our team takes after a report is submitted, and how to immediately alert our specialized CARES and safety teams if someone on campus is distressed or posing a threat.

Request a Presentation or Training

If any department or office is interested in a classroom presentation or staff training facilitated by the Dean of Students Office on topics such as Dean of Students resources (Student Conduct, Community Resource Center, CARE Team), conflict resolution, emotional regulation, or other related student support topics, they are encouraged to contact the Dean of Students Office to discuss available programming.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you believe a violation of the Student Code of Conduct has occurred against you, or if you have witnessed an incident on campus, you can file an official Incident Report Form online.

 

The Student Conduct Officer will review the submission to determine if any violations of the Student Code of Conduct are involved.

  • If a violation is identified: The student in question will be sent an official Student Conduct Charge letter outlining the issue and instructing them on how to proceed.
  • Follow-up: Our office may also reach out to the faculty, staff, or community member who filed the report to ask clarifying questions and gather additional details about the incident.

Student conduct matters are considered private educational records and are strictly protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Because of this, our office cannot disclose the outcome of a case to anyone unless:

  • The student explicitly grants written authorization to share the information.
  • The information is legally allowed to be shared with a victim of endangerment, harassment, or sexual misconduct.
  • A faculty or staff member has a strict "need to know" operational basis (for example, if a student is temporarily restricted from entering a specific campus building).
If you notice a student demonstrating concerning, highly unusual, or potentially distressed behavior, please submit a CARE Referral Form. This notifies our campus CARE Team so they can reach out to the student and connect them with the appropriate support resources.

College of the Mainland is committed to fostering a safe campus environment, which requires the active involvement of all community members. We encourage everyone to report observed behavior that warrants concern for the safety of an individual or the community.

The CARES Team reviews these reports to make informed decisions on how to best intervene.
