Fostering an Inclusive Learning Environment

Race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, age, physical abilities, religion, political beliefs or other ideologies will not prevent students from receiving a quality education. At COM it is about moving beyond tolerance. We strive to recognize our similarities and explore our differences in a safe, positive and nurturing environment.

We strive to help COM capitalize on the strength emanating from students, staff, faculty and administrators and to foster cross-cultural understanding, communication and respect among all people.

The following strategies were developed to support the College’s vision to be a valued and vital community partner by enriching our community and preparing our students to thrive in a dynamic and global environment:

1. Offer educational and training experiences to expand awareness, knowledge and cultural competencies that aid in understanding and management of institutional distinction.
2. Promote policies, practices and procedures that provide opportunities to increase minority representation of students, staff, faculty and administrators.
3. Provide internal resources to students and employees for filing complaints or grievances relating to discrimination, harassment and/or retaliation.
