TSI Exemptions, Waivers & Exceptions
Not every student is required to take the TSI. You may be exempt from one or more sections based on your previous test scores, military service, or prior college coursework.
Important: All test scores used for exemption must have been earned within the last five years.

Additional Exemptions for the TSI Assessment
You are exempt from the TSIA2 if you meet one of the following:
- Veteran Status: Honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty on or after August 1, 1990.
- Active Duty: Currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, Texas National Guard, or a reserve component for at least 3 years preceding enrollment.
- Note: Please consult with the Office for Veteran Success before claiming this exemption to ensure you are academically prepared for your courses.
- Associate or Higher: You have already earned an associate or baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Transfer Coursework: You have completed college-level ELAR or Math courses with a grade of "C" or better at an accredited institution.
- Level–One Certificate: You are enrolling in a Level-One Certificate program (15–42 credit hours) and are only taking courses within that plan.
