Grants Program Information

These grants are reserved for students enrolled in academic credit courses leading to an associate degree or technical certificate.

• Federal Pell Grants: A federally funded program designed to help undergraduate pre-baccalaureate students continue their education. . Eligibility is determined by financial need, the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) on your Student Aid Report (SAR), the Cost of Attendance (COA), and your total enrollment hours. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress.  All students applying for financial assistance through COM must apply for a federal Pell Grant by submitting the FAFSA online.

• Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG): Provides additional assistance to undergraduate students who demonstrate the greatest financial need, are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant, and are making satisfactory progress toward their educational goal. Funds vary depending on institutional availability.
• Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG - Credit): A state-funded financial aid program assisting students at state-supported Texas colleges. Eligibility is determined by demonstrated financial need and maintaining satisfactory progress toward an educational goal.
• Texas Educational Opportunity Grant Program (TEOG): A need-based grant for Texas residents who are in the first 30 hours of an associate degree or certificate program. Students must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours), demonstrate financial need, have no felony or controlled-substance convictions, and register for the Selective Service (or be exempt).
  • Renewal Rules: At the end of the first year, students must meet standard campus academic requirements. By the end of the second year, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and complete at least 75 percent of all previously attempted hours.
• Valedictorian Tuition Exemption: Highest-ranking graduates from accredited Texas high schools receive a tuition exemption during the first two regular semesters immediately following graduation.
• Firefighter Tuition Exemption: Allows eligible active personnel to enroll in courses in a fire science curriculum and be exempt from tuition and laboratory fees.

These grants are available for students enrolled in professional continuing education workforce courses and occupational skills certifications.

Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG - CE): Available for certain Continuing Education workforce courses and programs to assist students showing financial need. Applicants must hold a high school diploma from an accredited institution or a high school equivalency diploma, complete the FAFSA, and submit a TPEG Grant Request. This grant can be applied to career or occupational training tracks, including:

• Allied Health Programs: Certified Nurse Aid (CNA), Dental Assistant, Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician, Medical Office/Insurance Specialist, Medication Aid, Phlebotomy Technician, and Sterile Processing Technician.
• Logistics & Global Supply Chain Management: Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) and Certified Logistics Technician (CLT).
• Public Service Careers: Police Officer and Commissioned Security Officer.

These specialized programs support parents needing childcare or students who are ineligible for federal financial aid.

Carl D. Perkins Child Care Grant

Provided by federal funds through the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act to assist students who need childcare support.

Requirements: Must be enrolled in a career and technical certificate or degree program with an active degree plan; must carry a minimum of six credit hours (developmental courses are ineligible); must maintain satisfactory academic progress with a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA; must have completed a FAFSA and be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant.

Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)

A paper application to determine aid eligibility for DACA and non-citizen individuals who are legal residents of Texas. TASFA applicants are ineligible for federal programs like Pell Grants, Federal Work-Study, or Federal Direct Loans.

Requirements: Must reside in Texas for 12 months prior to higher education enrollment; graduate from a Texas high school or obtain a Texas GED; have lived in the state for 36 months leading up to high school graduation.

Students are strongly encouraged to submit all applications and required financial documents before these target priority dates to secure maximum funding:

• Fall Semester Deadline: August 1
• Spring Semester Deadline: December 1
• Summer Semester Deadline: May 1

Note: Applications turned in after these priority deadlines will be processed based on available institutional funds.
