Young Worker Safety and Health Center

A specialized resource division of the Gulf Coast Safety Institute (GCSI), the Young Worker Safety and Health Center is tailored specifically for younger demographics entering the workforce. This center focuses on lowering the disproportionately high rates of job-related injuries among workers between the ages of 16 and 24.
Our mission is to equip young professionals, educators, and employers with introductory hazard awareness, safety culture, and legal knowledge to foster safe, injury-free early careers.

Youth at Work (Talking Safety)
A foundational, interactive curriculum designed to build baseline health and safety skills into educational career tracks and high school programs.
Safety Matters Modules
Targeted, fast-track interactive teaching models built for students in grades 7–12 to introduce workplace accident prevention concepts before they accept their first jobs.
Employer Outreach Guidance
Providing local small businesses, retail networks, and construction firms with resources to train young workers effectively in clear, accessible language.

- Hazard Recognition: Identifying, evaluating, and predicting risks across general industry, retail, and construction settings.
- Emergency Preparedness: Knowing the exact protocols and structural execution plans required in the event of an active workplace emergency.
- Slips, Trips, and Falls: Minimizing the regional leading causes of non-fatal injuries in commercial and industrial settings.
- Rights & Responsibilities: Understanding the protection frameworks outlined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), child labor laws, and whistleblower protections.
