College of the Mainland (COM) has received a $324,916 Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) Grant through the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to enhance nursing education. The grant funded advanced simulation equipment, including a MamaAnne maternal and birthing simulator, a SimBaby manikin, and 25 hospital beds with built-in scales and alarms.

This year's theme, "Salute the Soldiers", honors the African American troops who arrived in Galveston and played a vital role in securing the freedom of newly emancipated slaves.

The College of the Mainland (COM) Board of Trustees unanimously voted at its April 28 regular board meeting to confirm Dr. Helen Castellanos Brewer as the ninth president of the College, following the conclusion of a mandatory 21-day waiting period. Dr. Brewer will officially assume the presidency on July 1, 2025.

College of the Mainland (COM) announces it will sunset its Law Enforcement Academy effective March 31, 2026. This decision follows the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement's (TCOLE) decision not to pursue a new contract with COM for peace officer training after the current agreement expires. Under the terms of the existing contract, COM will continue operating the program through its conclusion. TCOLE did not provide an explanation.

The College of the Mainland (COM) Board of Trustees has named Dr. Helen Castellanos Brewer as the sole finalist for the position of president, following a comprehensive national search that attracted more than 70 applicants from across the country.
