College of the Mainland (COM) is pleased to announce the swearing-in of its newly elected and re-elected Board of Trustees (BOT) members following the May 3, 2025, election. The swearing-in took place during the board meeting on May 28, 2025.

The College of the Mainland (COM) Board of Trustees unanimously voted at its April 28 regular board meeting to confirm Dr. Helen Castellanos Brewer as the ninth president of the College, following the conclusion of a mandatory 21-day waiting period. Dr. Brewer will officially assume the presidency on July 1, 2025.

College of the Mainland (COM) announces it will sunset its Law Enforcement Academy effective March 31, 2026. This decision follows the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement's (TCOLE) decision not to pursue a new contract with COM for peace officer training after the current agreement expires. Under the terms of the existing contract, COM will continue operating the program through its conclusion. TCOLE did not provide an explanation.

College of the Mainland (COM) hosted the eleventh annual Gulf Coast Intercollegiate Consortium (GCIC) Academic Symposium on Friday, March 28. This event featured more than 80 presentations from students representing Gulf Coast community colleges, universities and high schools.

The College of the Mainland (COM) Board of Trustees has named Dr. Helen Castellanos Brewer as the sole finalist for the position of president, following a comprehensive national search that attracted more than 70 applicants from across the country.

College of the Mainland (COM) Collegiate High School (CHS) student Grace Pope has recently been accepted into several top Texas universities, including the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Texas at San Antonio, Sam Houston State University and the University of North Texas. She has also received four-year scholarship offers from the University of Houston and Baylor University.

College of the Mainland's (COM) Foundation will host its fifth annual Educate a Woman "Laughs for Lunch" scholarship fundraiser luncheon on March 7 at 11:30 a.m. in the COM Conference Center. The event will feature a guest comedienne and a raffle benefiting student scholarships.

First-year College of the Mainland radiologic technology (rad tech) student Robel Araya was recently recognized by the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Professionalism Committee for his exceptional efforts in the workplace. What started as a simple conversation led to a profound impact on a patient visiting UTMB Clear Lake, where Robel works as a rad tech assistant.

An original production, "FUNNY BONED -or- How I Learned to SCHTICK the Landing", written by College of the Mainland (COM) Theatre Program Director H. Russ Brown, has been selected to showcase as an invited production at the Region 6 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) taking place February 23-27 in Abilene, Texas.
