Public Safety Firing Range
College of the Mainland's indoor firing range, located in the new 50,884-square-foot Public Safety Careers Building, provides a professional training environment for government public safety agencies and state-licensed private security companies.

The COM firing range supports firearms training, annual qualifications and skills development for public safety professionals.

State-licensed private security companies may reserve the range for firearms training and qualifications. Participants must hold the appropriate Texas Department of Public Safety private security credentials for the training being conducted. Commissioned security officers must meet applicable Level III requirements. Personal protection officers must meet applicable Level IV requirements.

Hours & Scheduling
Government Public Safety Agencies and Private Security Companies
Monday-Friday | 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Evening and weekend use may be available by request. Advance scheduling is required.
Range-use requests are confirmed by the Range Master.
COM Employee Range Hours
- Monday | 5-7 p.m. | Pistol
- Tuesday | 5-7 p.m. | Rifle/Shotgun
Eligible COM employees age 18 or older may use the range during designated employee hours. A Range Master must be present at all times. Reservations are recommended. Guests are not permitted.

Before You Arrive
All range users must follow COM firing range policies and instructions from the Range Master. The Range Master has final authority to restrict or prohibit any firearm, ammunition, equipment or activity determined to be unsafe or inconsistent with range policies. Firearms must be cleared upon entry to the building.
Required protective equipment:
- Safety glasses
- Hearing protection
- Ball cap
- Closed-toe shoes
- A T-shirt or similar crew-neck shirt is recommended.
- Avoid V-neck, low-cut or open-collar shirts.
All participants must complete the required release before using the range.

Firearms Training and Qualifications
Agencies may reserve the facility for annual firearms qualifications, recurring agency training and approved skills-development exercises. COM also plans to offer firearms and in-service training courses.

About COM Public Safety Training
The firing range is part of College of the Mainland's 50,884-square-foot Public Safety Careers Building, which supports Criminal Justice, Fire Technology and Emergency Medical Services education and training. The facility brings classrooms, specialized training spaces and hands-on public safety education together in one location to prepare students and support the training needs of public safety professionals.

No. The firing range is available to government public safety agencies, state-licensed private security companies and eligible COM employees during designated employee range hours.
The range can be used for firearms training, annual qualifications and approved skills-development exercises. Approved drills and tactical training exercises, including vehicle-based training, may also be accommodated.
